Test rig for tubular training

Offshore staff

ABERDEEN, UK --Engineering contractor Frank's International has installed an onshore drilling rig at its base in Aberdeen to assist training of its offshore staff in tubular installation techniques.

The 32 m tall (105 ft) T20 rig will serve to provide hands-on safety training of technicians, and also will be used to develop technology for improving safety of tubular handling operations.

Ahead of the installation, Frank's drilled a 309 m deep (1,013 ft) well. The new facility should be fully operational early in 2008.
