LONDON --Aberdeen consultancy Senergy has contracted Dolphin Drilling's semisubmersible Byford Dolphin for a five-well program in the UK North Sea.

The contract, which involves leasing the rig, should be worth around $80 million to Senergy. It will be made available to various independent operator clients, including Granby Oil & Gas and the recently-formed Chrysaor.

Granby says it will deploy the rig to drill a well on a central North Sea prospect in mid-2008. It will decide which prospect early next year, after it has completed interpretation of four newly acquired seismic surveys in the sector.

This is the second semi Granby has secured for work in the North Sea next year. It is involved in three wells currently drilling, and expects to participate in at least three more in 2008, including an appraisal of the Monkwell gas discovery.
