StatoilHydro steps up exploration

StatoilHydro is set to drill two wildcats in frontier regions offshore Norway, following approvals from Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority.

STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro is set to drill two wildcats in frontier regions offshore Norway, following approvals from Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority.

The company has contracted theWest Alpha to drill the third well in production license PL 263, awarded in 2000 under Norway's 16th licensing round. The license, covering blocks 6607/10 and 6607/11, is 230 km (143 mi) north-northwest of Kristiansund.

In the Barents Sea, StatoilHydro will drill well 7222/6-1 S, the first in PL 228, using the semisubPolar Pioneer. This license was awarded to Saga Petroleum in 1997, and comprises eight blocks around 175 km (108 mi) north-northwest of Hammerfest.
