STAVANGER, Norway --Smoke was reported yesterday onboard a drilling rig working for StatoilHydro in the Norwegian North Sea.
TheSonga Dee, operated by Stena Drilling, had been doing duty on the Troll field. Sparks in a ventilation room caused the fire, but it was extinguished in about an hour.
No injuries were reported to any of the 100 crew onboard. However, StatoilHydro put its emergency response service into action, pulling standby vessels and helicopters into the area.
