RIO DE JANEIRO -- Petrobras says well 4-ESS-175-ES, drilled in the Pirambu field offshore Brazil, found 60 m (197 ft) of light oil reservoirs positioned in the pre-salt well section. Well 4-ESS-175-ES produced at approximately 1,250 b/d at a water depth of 1,270 m (4,167 ft). This result confirms the interval's potential, Petrobras says.

This well is in the old BC-60 block off the Espírito Santo state, nearly 125 km (78 mi) south of the city of Vitória. Well 4-ESS-175-ES is in northern portion of the Campos basin, where oil had already been discovered in Tertiary reservoirs.

The discovery was made during work undertaken in the Discovery Evaluation Plan for well 1-ESS-121-ESS, in an area operated by Petrobras, which owns 100% of the concession. The declaration of commerciality for the field was sent to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) in Dec. 2006.

Additional studies are needed to better assess the reservoirs, Petrobras says.
