SINGAPORE -- Singapore Petroleum Co. Ltd. says a rig is ready to drill the Pancing-1X exploration well in the South Kakap production-sharing contract, which lies 1,247 km (775 mi) northwest of Jakarta, Indonesia. The Frontier Duchess is on location and awaiting good weather, SPC says.

Pancing-1X, which lies in the western part of the South Kakap block, will be drilled between the oil and gas producing KG and KH fields. The well will test a new reservoir objective and play type in the deeper formation in South Kakap.

SPC holds 15% interest in the Kakap PSC, which has two blocks North Kakap and South Kakap. There are nine producing oil and gas fields in South Kakap. The previous exploration well, Lukah-1X, drilled in May 2006, successfully tested natural gas and condensate over two sand intervals.
