Statoil to examine western Snøhvit

Statoil has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an appraisal well on the Snøhvit field in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

OSLO, Norway --Statoil has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an appraisal well on the Snøhvit field in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

The semisubmersiblePolar Pioneer will drill well 7120/6-2S on the western part of Snøhvit in production license 097, 147 km (91 mi) northwest of Hammerfest.

Snøhvit is due to enter production later this year, providing the gas for Norway's first LNG processing terminal.
