OSLO, Norway --Hydro is terminating its latest wildcat in the Norwegian North Sea as a dry hole. Well 11/5-1, drilled by the semisubmersible Polar Pioneer in 176 m (577 ft) of water, was testing a prospect called Loshavn in Jurassic reservoir rocks, and a Permian-age interval.

Despite the result, the well did provide important data on this little-explored area of the southeastern North Sea, Hydro says. It was also the first exploratory well on production license 317, awarded under Norway's 18th licensing round in 2004.
