ABERDEEN, UK –Total has discovered gas and condensate close to its Laggan field northwest of the Shetland Islands.

The Tormore 205/5a-1 well, drilled in 610 m (2,001 ft) of water, 15 km (9 mi) southwest of Laggan, tested gas at 32MMcf/d and condensate at 2,200 b/d, with a condensate/gas ratio of 75bbl/MMcf. It was drilled to a TD of 3,936 m (12,913 ft).

Total plans to evaluate the results over the next few months, including potential development synergies with Laggan. The latter, which last appraised in 2004, is one of several stranded gas fields in this hostile region. Total and the other operators have been examining options for a joint development under the UK government-initiated West of Shetland Task Force.
