LONDON, UK --Fairfield Energy has proven further oil in the Crawford field in the UK central North Sea.

The harsh environment jack-upRowan Gorilla VII drilled well 9/28a-18 to confirm an extension to Crawford's Triassic reservoir north of previous wells.

According to partner Valiant Petroleum, the well was drilled with a 70deg well bore deviation, and encountered over 1,200-ft (365 m) of oil-bearing sandstone in the Triassic Cormorant formation. It also discovered a 62-ft (18.9 m) oil column with 40-ft (12.2 m)of pay in the Delta A prospect in Tertiary sands, with further oil shows in the Cretaceous.

Fairfield is now trying to secure hydraulic fracturing equipment to test the Triassic Cormorant formation. If this is unavailable, it will suspend the well without testing, probably returning in spring 2008 when it has a drilling slot with the semi-submersibleSedco 704.
