Hydro well to spud in mid-September

OSLO, Norway --Hydro has consent from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an exploration well in production license 286.

The designated drilling rig, Transocean Offshore'sPolar Pioneer, is finishing another program, but should be able to start work on the well around Sept. 10.

Well 6609/6-1 will be drilled vertically to an estimated total depth of 2,710 m (8,891 ft), in a water depth of 329 m (1,079 ft). The location is 90 km (56 mi) west of Traena Municipality in mid-Norway. Drilling should take around 54 days, but if there is a discovery, activity could be extended for a further 21 days for extended logging and production testing.
