JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Total has been awarded the South East Mahakam exploration block in the Mahakam Delta offshore East Kalimantan in Indonesia. The award was part of the 2006 licensing round held by the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
In water depths ranging from 50 m to 200 m (164 to 656 ft) about 20 km (12 mi) south of the Peciko production facilities operated by Total, South East Mahakam covers an area of 2,000 sq km (772 sq mi).
Total's commitment includes a 3D seismic survey and two exploration wells.
Total will operate the South East Mahakam block with 50% interest. Partner Inpex will hold the remaining 50%.
