ABERDEEN, UK --The semisubmersible Borgsten Dolphin is drilling the Guinea prospect in UK North Sea block 15/13b, on behalf of operator Nexen Petroleum. According to partner Granby Oil and Gas, the well is targeting a Palaeocene prospect in Balmoral sandstone with significant oil-bearing potential.

The Guinea structure is on a trend north of the Witch Ground Graben. The well, with a target total depth of 2,150 m (7,053 ft), should take around 14 days to drill.

Nexen and Gas Plus are funding the work, in return for a 50% and 12.5% interest respectively in the block.
