Statoil cleared for Sleipner exploration well

Statoil has approval from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an exploration well in the Sleipner area of the North Sea. The location is in block 15/6, around 7 km (4.4 mi) northeast of the Sleipner Vest field and 3 km (2 mi) east of the Dagny discovery in block 15/5.

STAVANGER, Norway --Statoil has approval from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an exploration well in the Sleipner area of the North Sea. The location is in block 15/6, around 7 km (4.4 mi) northeast of the Sleipner Vest field and 3 km (2 mi) east of the Dagny discovery in block 15/5.

The targeted structure lies in production license 303, which was granted to Statoil under Norway's 2003 North Sea licensing round. This will be the first probe on the acreage.

TheWest Epsilon will drill the well, after completing another wildcat for Statoil (16/4-4) in production license 339.
