EDINBURGH, UK --Drilling is under way on the D-1 exploration well in Douala basin, block MLHP 5, Etinda permit, offshore Cameroon, according to Bowleven Plc.

Primary target is the Upper Miocene turbidite sands which the company believes to be similar to those at the Belinda discovery in Equatorial Guinea made by Noble Energy. If successful, D-1 will be suspended for later production. Target depth is 3,048 m (10,000 ft).

BowLeven's wholly owned subsidiary EurOil Ltd. holds 100% of Etinde permit.
