OSLO-- Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has consented for ConocoPhillips Skandinavia to use the Ekofisk 2/4 K and 2/4 E Tor installations in the North Sea beyond their design lifetime.

The extension for 2/4 K is valid until Dec. 31, 2028, and for Tor until Dec. 31, 2015. One deciding factor was that ConocoPhillips is committed to replacing the existing living quarters at the Ekofisk Center to provide adequate accommodation capacity for future operations, maintenance, modifications, and projects.

The consent for Tor, 13 km (8 mi) northeast of the Ekofisk Center, extends to use of the gangway and flare stack, including the jacket structure, and of the existing 14-in. (35-cm) multiphase pipeline to Ekofisk 2/4-J.

2/4 K produces and supplies purified sea water for injection and to the Viktor Alpha facility.

PSA says drilling is expected to continue on Ekofisk 2/4 K for some years in order to maintain the water injection wells. This requires a manning level that necessitates access to the living quarter on this facility.
