OSLO -- Wildcat well 35/9-5 in the North Sea is dry, says operator Nexen Exploration Norge. The well did not encounter expected reservoir rocks in the Lower Cretaceous, although, non-mobile petroleum was encountered in reservoir rock with little thickness and poor reservoir quality deeper in the Cretaceous.
The semisub West Alpha drilled the well to a vertical depth of 3,513 m (11,526 ft) below the sea surface. The well was terminated in the Middle Jurassic and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
