Saipem secures Persian Gulf, Egypt rig assignments

Harrington Dubai has contracted the Saipem jackup Perro Negro 3 for a six-month drilling program in the Persian Gulf, with an option for a further 18 months.

SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy -- Harrington Dubai has contracted the Saipem jackup Perro Negro 3 for a six-month drilling program in the Persian Gulf, with an option for a further 18 months. Perro Negro 3 can operate in water depths to 300 ft (91.4 m).

In the Mediterranean region, Egypt’s IEOC has agreed to extend its charter of Saipem’s semisub Scarabeo 4 through June 2013.

Saipem also has won two contracts for the charter of the Scarabeo 3 for operations off West Africa for a total of nine months plus options, starting January 2010. Total E&P Congo will take the rig to drill one well plus one optional well in Congolese waters, while Addax Petroleum’s charter is for drilling activities offshore Nigeria.

Scarabeo 3 and 4 both are second generation semis, designed to operate in water depths to 1,500 ft (457 m).
