ARENDAL, Norway -- The newbuild drilling platform Sevan Driller is in transit to Brazil, according to Sevan Marine.

Petrobras has contracted the cylindrical-shaped rig for six years. The first location will be in the pre-salt area of the Campos basin, in a water depth of 1,800 m (5,905 ft).

Block fabrication of the Sevan Driller II, based on the same design and major equipment items, has started at the Cosco Nantong Shipyard in China. This rig is due to be delivered during 1Q 2012. Sevan remains in negotiations with ONGC over a three-year drilling contract.

As for the company’s FPSO fleet, theSevan Voyageur will finish work on Premier Oil’s Shelley field in the UK North Sea earlier than expected. Due to rapidly dwindling production, the field is due to be decommissioned this summer.

Sevan is looking for a new project for this floater, and for its speculatively built hulls Sevan 300 numbers 4 and 5, both at China’s Jiangsu Hantong Shipyard. Negotiations continue with the yard concerning the construction scope.
