CALGARY, Alberta -- Canada's National Energy Board says it will review its arctic offshore drilling safety and environmental rules in reponse to the Gulf of Mexico blowout.

"We need to learn from what happened in the Gulf," NEB chair Gaétan Caron said. "The information taken from this unfortunate situation will enhance our safety and environmental oversight."

Details about the review will be announced, but the NEB says the process will be "public and consultative."

At the same time, the board cancelled its same-season relief well arctic capability study.
