LONDON -- Salamander Energy is preparing to run a drillstem test on the Bang Nouan-1 wildcat offshore Laos.

The well TD is 3,400 m (11,155 ft) and logging is complete. Gas shows in a secondary objective Kuchinarai sandstone between 2,020 m (6,627 ft) and 2,120 m (6,955 ft) indicate up to 25 m (82 ft) of net gas pay. The primary target, Pha Nok Khao carbonates, found water.

"The Bang Nouan-1 well is a high-risk exploration well," says James Menzies, Salamander CEO, "the nearest existing well data on the basin being located over 100 km away. The presence of gas int he Triassic section and permeability in the Permian carbonates offers encouragement in helping to define the play system in this part of the basin..."
