OSLO -- The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized Statoil to drill an exploration well in the North Sea.
Well 15/3-9 will be drilled by the semisubTransocean Leader in license PL187, after the rig has completed work on the 6506/11-A-2 H well on the Morvin field, also for Statoil.
The new well will be drilled between the Gudrun and Sigrun discoveries, about 45 km (28 mi) north of the Sleipner Vest field.
Statoil is operator, in partnership with Marathon Petroleum and GDF Suez E&P.
Production licence 187 was awarded in September 1993 (14th licensing round). This is the second well to be drilled in the permit area.
