Tui SW-1 abandoned, re-drill begins

New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd. says it is drilling the Tui SW-2 well as a re-drill to the SW-1.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd. says it is drilling the Tui SW-2 well as a re-drill to the SW-1. The SW-1 was abandoned when unconsolidated formation problems prevented running the 13 3/8-in (33.7 cm) casing at 1,505 m (4,038 ft)

The SW-2 targets a depth of 3,900 m (12,795 ft) in the PMP 38158 license in the Taranaki basin offshore New Zealand.

AWE Ltd. is operator of the license wtih 43.5%. Other participants are NZOG, 12.5%; Mitsui E&P Australia Pty Ltd., 35%; and WM Petroleum Ltd., 10%.
