ABERDEEN -- Centrica Resources has made a discovery in the Norwegian Sea, according to a report by partner Faroe Petroleum.
The semisub West Alpha has been drilling well 6506/9-2 S on the Fogelberg prospect in 280 m (918 ft) water depth. The well has reached the targeted mid-Jurassic reservoir in the Garn formation, and there have been indications of hydrocarbons, based on log response and increased gas levels.
As planned, a program of coring is under way on the hydrocarbon-bearing zones, which is expected to last for several weeks. Extensive data will also be collected in order to perform a full formation evaluation.
Fogelberg is in a rotated fault block around 10 km (6.2 mi) north of the producing Aasgard field complex, and 10 km northeast of the apparently similar Morvin oil and gas discovery, which is due on stream towards the end of this year.
