Vantage takes on multi-role drillship

Vantage Drilling Co. has agreed to supervise and manage construction and marketing of the ultra-deepwater drillship/FPSO, Dalian Developer, formerly known as the MPF-01.

HOUSTON -- Vantage Drilling Co. has agreed to supervise and manage construction and marketing of the ultra-deepwater drillship/FPSO, Dalian Developer, formerly known as the MPF-01.

Dalian Deepwater Developer Ltd (DDD) awarded the contract. The vessel, which according to Vantage will be the world's largest drillship, will also be upgradeable to take on extended well tests and production.

It will be capable of drilling in water depths up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m), with a maximum subsurface drilling depth of 30,000 ft. The large deck space and large variable deck load capacity can accommodate process facilities, with storage in the hull for up to 1 MMbbl of oil.

DDD will pay Vantage management fees and reimbursable costs during the project’s construction phase.
