ABERDEEN, UK -- Nexen has successful appraised its Blackbird oil field discovery in the UK Central North Sea.

Well 20/2a-9 well was drilled in a water depth of around 367 ft (112 m) to a TMD of 12,000 ft (3,657 m), targeting Upper Jurassic oil. It encountered around 330 vertical ft (100 m) of gross oil-bearing section. Early analysis of wireline logs indicates 75 ft (23 m) total thickness of good quality, oil bearing reservoir sands.

The partners plan to complete and flow-test the well, which will then be suspended for future use as a producer, via a potential tieback to Nexen’s Ettrick FPSO.
