LUKOIL, Vanco firm up Gulf of Guinea drilling plans

LUKOIL, Vanco, GNPC, and PETROCI are preparing for an intensive West African exploration and appraisal drilling program for the Cape Three Points Deep Water block, off Republic of Ghana and block CI-401, off Republic of Cóte d’Ivoire.

HOUSTON -- LUKOIL, Vanco, GNPC, and PETROCI are preparing for an intensive West African exploration and appraisal drilling program for the Cape Three Points Deep Water block, off Republic of Ghana and block CI-401, off Republic of Cóte d’Ivoire. 

The companies have awarded drilling contractor Ocean Rig contracts to drill four wells in Cape Three Points Deep Water block, including two exploration wells on new structures and two appraisal wells on the Dzata structure, where an oil and gas discovery was announced in February 2010. In Cóte d’Ivoire, the drillship is expected to drill one exploration well in block CI-401, where the Orca-1X bis well was completed in May 2010.

The contracts provide for one more optional well and an optional additional one-year term.
Drilling off Ghana is scheduled for April-May 2011; CI-401 is scheduled for 1Q 2012.
