RIO DE JANEIRO -- Petrobras has had further success appraising the deepwater Tupi field, according to partner BG Group.
The ninth well, informally known as Tupi SW, was drilled in a water depth of 2,152 m (7,060 ft), roughly 295 km (183 mi) off the coast of Rio de Janeiro State, and 11 km (6.8 mi) southeast of well 3-RJS-646 (3-BRSA-496), where drill stem testing is in progress in pre-salt reservoirs.
Oil samples taken during wireline tests in the latest well (3-RJS-678) confirmed the presence of a light oil accumulation of around 28deg API. The well encountered a 128-m (420-ft) reservoir section, and located the oil/water contact at the deepest of the potential depths previously considered.
According to BG, this result reduces the uncertainty over hydrocarbon volumes for the Tupi area.
