RIO DE JANEIRO -- Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) says light oil was found in the 11th of 13 planned wells in the Tupi/Iracema pre-salt reservoirs offshore Brazil’s Santos basin. Well 3-BRSA-865A-RJS-887A, Tupi W for short, found 28º API oil in 2,139 m (7,018 ft) of water.

Petrobras says samples from the well found 90 m (295 ft) of pay thickness and proves the light oil reservoir extends to the western end of the Tupi Evaluation Plan. This confirms the 5-8 Bbbl recoverable potential in the Tupi pre-salt, according to Petrobras.

Formation tests are to be done to determine productivity of the reservoir.

Block BM-S-11 is held by Petrobras (65% - Operator), BG Group (25%), and Petrogal Brasil - Galp Energia (10%),
