Discoverer India starts to work for Reliance

Transocean Ltd.’s new ultra-deepwater drillship Discoverer India has begun a minimum of five years drilling for Reliance Industries in India.

Zug, Switzerland – Transocean Ltd.’s new ultra-deepwater drillship Discoverer India has begun a minimum of five years drilling for Reliance Industries in India. Reliance can extend the contract to seven or 10 years if it chooses before Dec. 31, 2010.

The double-hulled Discoverer India is equipped to drill up to 35,000 ft (10,668 m) total depth in water depths of 10,000 ft (3,048 m) and can be upgraded to drill up to 40,000 ft (12,192 m) total depth in water depths up to 12,000 ft (3,658 m).

The rig features include Transocean's patented dual-activity drilling technology that allows parallel drilling operations. Other features include an enhanced top drive system, a high-pressure mud system and a variable deckload of more than 20,000 metric tons (22,046 tons).
