Salamander draws blank with Vietnam frontier well
Offshore staff
LONDON -- Salamander Energy has plugged and abandoned its Tom Su Lua-1X exploratory well off southern Vietnam as a dry hole.
The well, in offshore block DBSCL-01 was the first ever drilled in the Vinh Chau graben system. It was drilled to a TVD subsea of 1,380 m (4,527 ft).
Salamander adds that the well did encounter both potential seals and good quality reservoir sandstones, which were wet in the Tertiary clastic sections.
The jackup PVD-1 now transfers 25 km (15.5 mi) to the south to drill the 31-Tom Hum Xanh-1X oil prospect in the same block. Salamander estimates potential recoverable resources at around 80 MMbbl.
