STAVANGER, Norway -- RWE Dea has started drilling the Zidane prospect in the Norwegian Sea, according to partner Noreco.

The semisubmersible Bredford Dolphin is drilling well 6507/7-14S in license PL435, 10 km (6.2 mi) west of the Heidrun field. Noreco estimates potential at Zidane of 100-155 MMboe, with gas/condensate the most likely outcome. Results should be issued during September.

In the central Norwegian North Sea, Lundin Norway has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a wildcat in license PL 501, 35 km (21.7 mi) south of the Grane heavy oil field. The permit area covers parts of blocks 16/2, 3, 5 and 6.

After completing a side track for Talisman Energy Norge, the semisub Transocean Winner will drill well 16/2-6 for Lundin. This will be the first well on the license, which was awarded last year under Norway’s APA 2008 licensing round.
