TEHRAN -- Exploratory drilling should get under way in the next few months on the Dayer block in the Persian Gulf, according to a report by Iranian news service Shana.
A National Iranian Oil Co. exploration director told Shana that geophysical and seismological studies had been completed, the drilling location determined, and that preparatory work for drilling was in progress.
NIOC is currently evaluating bids for a drilling rig.
Earlier this week, Iran’s oil minister Masoud Mirkazemi said he expected four more phases of the South Pars gas/condensate field in the Gulf to come on stream by March 2012.
These phases will add 100 MMcm (3.5 tcf) to the nation’s sweetened gas production capacity, which is currently 75 MMcm/yr (2.65 tcf/yr).
Last month, Ali Vakili, Pars Oil and Gas Co.’s managing director, said that phases 15 and 16 were 52% complete, while phases 17 and 18 were 50% complete.
