Dana spuds latest Mauritania well

SYDNEY, New South Wales -- Drilling is under way on the Cormoran-1 exploration well offshore Mauritania, according to partner Roc Oil.

Early this morning, the well had reached a measured depth of 1,760 m (5,774 ft).

Cormoran-1, operated by Dana Petroleum, is in block 7, 2 km (1.24 mi) southeast of the Pelican-1 gas discovery, and in a water depth of 1,630 m (5,348 ft). Planned TD is around 4,600 m (15,092 ft).

The other partners in the well are GDF Suez, Tullow Oil, and PC Mauritania.
