Gazprom finds more gas off eastern Russia

Gazprom has discovered a new gas field in the Kirinsky block offshore Sakhalin Island.

MOSCOW -- Gazprom has discovered a new gas field in the Kirinsky block offshore Sakhalin Island.
The successful well was drilled to a subsurface depth of 2,795 m (9,170 ft). Gazprom plans to perform follow-up exploration and reserves estimation studies over the next three years.

Kirinsky block is part of the Sakhalin III project, which also comprise the Vostochno-Odoptinsky and Ayashky blocks. Gazprom has also discovered gas in the Kirinskoye field. The company estimates current discovered gas reserves within the Sakhalin III area at 1.4 tcm (49.44 tcf).

The gas will be exported through the new Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok pipeline system.
