LONDON -- The jackup Trident IX shortly will spud the Dambus-1 exploration well in the Kutai PSC offshore Indonesia for operator Serica Energy.

The well targets a sequence of stacked Miocene sands in subsurface depths of 1,200- 2,700 m (3,937-8,858 ft), with gross mean prospective resources estimated at of 200 MMboe.

Serica says the prospect is analogous to the nearby Serang field where over 800 m (2,624 ft) of gross pay sands have been recorded. Water depth at the Dambus-1 is 85 m (279 ft), and the well should take 40 days to complete.

On completion, the rig will transfer south to start work on the Marindan exploration prospect in the southern part of the Kutai PSC in the Mahakam Delta offshore East Kalimantan.

Serica is operator with a 30% interest.
