ABERDEEN, UK -- TAQA Bratani has taken the Stena Drilling semisub Stena Spey on a six-month contract for work in the UK North Sea.

The rig will perform drilling, completion, and work-over activities, some of this directed at the Falcon discovery north of the TAQA- operated Tern field. First oil is expected from Falcon during the second half of 2011.

TAQA plans further drilling in the subsea Pelican field, close to the Cormorant Alpha platform.

Managing director Leo Koot said: “2011 will be another busy year for TAQA Bratani in which we not only aim to further maximize the value of our existing assets through the restoring of well integrity, but will also see the completion of our first new field development.

“In a tight rig market, we are pleased to continue our close working relationship with Stena Drilling. This contract is vital in helping us realize our production targets, sustain our continued investment in our Northern North Sea assets, and secure our position as an important oil and gas operator in the North Sea.”

The Stena Spey will arrive on site in March to start work on Falcon. Stena Drilling’s contract includes optional extensions.

TAQA’s work program also includes platform drilling from its various installations.
