TRONDHEIM, Norway -- Det norske oljeselskap has found gas while drilling the Stirby Deep prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.

Data from the well, in license PL 341, 75 km (46.6 mi) south of the Sleipner field, indicates high pressure gas/gas condensate in a 70-m (229-ft) thick sandstone in the Viking Graben, at a subsurface depth of 4,870 m (15,977 ft).

The partners have decided to drill deeper to collect further data in order to assess the size and commerciality of the discovery.
