STAVANGER -- Wildcat well 34/4-11 in North Sea has hit pay, says Petro-Canada Norge. The well’s objective was to prove petroleum in the Middle Jurassic Brent group, the Dunlin group, and the Statfjord formation in the Lower Jurassic.

The well proved oil in the Brent group and in the Statfjord formation. The company estimates that the discovery holds between 7 and 40 MMcm of contingent resources. The well has not been formation tested, but data acquisition and sampling were completed.

Songa Delta drilled the well to a vertical depth of 4,296 m (14,094 ft) below the sea surface. The well was terminated in Late Triassic rocks.

The company is scheduled to temporarily abandon the well, with a plan for subsequent appraisal.
