WEST PERTH, Australia -- AWE and its partners have opted to plug and abandon the Tuatara-1 exploration well offshore New Zealand.

The well was drilled in permit PEP 38524 in the western Tasman Bay in the southern sector of the offshore Taranaki basin.

It reached a TMD of 1,911 m (6,269 ft), with minor oil shows over the interval 1,790–1,850 m (5,872-6,069 ft). Although wireline logs were run, there was no indication of zones of economic potential.
