OSLO -- Wintershall Norge is to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea with the semisub Songa Delta, following clearance from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway.

Well 6406/3-8 will be drilled in 300 m (984 ft) of water on production license 475BS, at a location around 50 km (31 mi) southwest of the Heidrun field and 20 km (12.4 mi) southeast of the Åsgard complex. Drilling should start shortly, with an estimated duration of 48-60 days.

Songa Delta (formerly Deepsea Delta) is a third-generation mobile drilling rig, operated by Odfjell Drilling in Bergen, which was built by Rauma Repola (Finland) in 1981.
