TRONDHEIM, Norway -- North Sea wildcat well 25/10-10 is uncommercial, says operator ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway. The well is west of the Balder field.
The well’s primary exploration target was to prove petroleum in Early Triassic sandstones. It encountered good quality, but water-bearing reservoir rocks in the objective reservoir interval, says license partner Det norske oljeselskap.
The rig Aker Barents drilled well 25/10-10 to a TD of 2,473 m (8,114 ft) below the sea surface. The well was terminated in the Zechstein Formation of Permian Age and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Aker Barents is scheduled to move to PL 460 to complete well 25/1-11 on the Det norske-operated Storklakken prospect.
