LONDON -- An oil discovery in Santos basin offshore Brazil was made by Petrobras as operator, according to BG Group.
The Tupi field well in block BM-S-11 flowed 4,900 b/d of oil and 4.2 MMscf/d of gas on a 5/8-in. choke from a deep, pre-salt reservoir. The block is 250 km offshore Rio in 2,126 m of water.
The joint venture of Petrobras, 65%; BG, 25%; and Petrogal, 10% agreed to accelerate the exploration and appraisal program on the block.
"This is a very important discovery which follows on from the discovery earlier this year of oil with the Parati well some 70km distant in Block BM-S-10," said Frank Chapman, BG CEO.
