STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has awarded a 30-month, $378 million charter starting at the end of 2008 for the semisubmersible Transocean Leader.
The rig will be used for exploration and production drilling in Tampen and Halten/Nordland areas of the Norwegian continental shelf. Statoil previously had used the rig in the North Sea and Norwegian Sea.
TheTransocean Leader is a fourth-generation Aker H-4.2 unit, built in 1987 to work in deeper waters.
