Hydro proves productive extension to North Sea Astero field

Offshore staff

OSLO, Norway -- Hydro has discovered further volumes of oil and gas in the Astero structure in the North Sea. Well 35/11-14S, drilled by the semisubmersible Transocean Winner, was testing a previously unexplored section named Astero B.

According to Hydro director Lars Christian Alsvik, the results suggest reserves are large enough to warrant a new development in the area. The Astero field lies 8 km (5 mi) north of Fram Vest, in a water depth of 360 m. In December, Hydro will submit a development plan for another field in this region, Vega.
