Petro-Canada Moray Firth find could be extension of earlier discovery

ABERDEEN, UK -- Reach Exploration has belatedly revealed an oil discovery in the Moray Firth. Operator Petro-Canada drilled and flow tested well 13/27a-4 early last year, using the Global Santa Fe Arctic 2. The well flowed 33.4 API black oil from Upper Jurassic sandstones.

The location was 4 km north-east of well 13/26a-2, which found hydrocarbons in four reservoir zones. Pressure data from the Upper Jurassic strata suggests the two wells may be part of the same accumulation.

Petro-Canada and Reach have since farmed into adjacent production licenses covering blocks 13/26a and 13/26b. Operator Talisman will drill another well on 13/26a next spring; the field lies 18 km (11.25 mi) west of Talisman's producing Ross field.
