(Aberdeen) Plexus Holdings is to supply its proprietary POS-Grip high pressure, high temperature wellhead equipment to Maersk Oil for two exploration wells in the North Sea. The six-month rental contract, valued at £800,000, covers equipment specified for pressures of up to 15,000 psi.

Maersk will use the rented wellheads on its Duart and Culzean wells in the Central Graben region. Duart will employ an 18 ¾-in. surface wellhead system in conjunction with a standard subsea HP/HT wellhead, supplied by another company. According to Plexus, this method of deploying subsea wellheads from jack-ups is safer and more cost-effective than installing HP/HT subsea production systems in shallower water depths.

Plexus' technique involves deforming one tubular member against another to effect gripping and sealing within the elastic range.
