LONDON -- The Transocean drillship Discoverer 534 has spudded the KGV-D3-G1 well on the D3 (KG-DW-2003/1) exploration license in the Krishna Godavari basin, according to Hardy Oil and Gas. The well has a planned total depth of 2,510 m (8,235 ft) TVD subsea.

The exploration well KGV-D3-G1 is in 1,233 m (4,045 ft) of water and will explore the sands in Pleistocene slope debris complex and Pliocene/Late Miocene deepwater channel-levee-lobe complex, the company says.

The rig will drill and lower 20-in. (51-cm) casing and suspend the operation for re-entry at a later date as the drillship's blowout preventer repair is in progress. In the event that the BOP repair is completed in time, the company intends to complete the drilling of the entire well to TD.
