ABERDEEN, UK -- An appraisal well on the Cygnus gas field has confirmed gas in a third fault block, according to Venture Production.

The 44/12a-4 well, which targeted the northeastern section of the field, tested at a stabilized flow rate of 32 MMcf/d. In addition, strong tubing head pressure was observed which indicates the potential for very good well deliverability, the company says.

The jackupNoble Ronald Hoope drilled the well to a total depth (TD) of 12,284 ft (3,744 m). The well encountered 63 ft (19 m) of gas bearing reservoir in the Leman interval, the company says.

The company has prepared a draft field development plan that envisages a phased development of the now fully appraised eastern part of the field. Further appraisal drilling may be carried out in the under-appraised western part of the field. This could lead to additional recoverable reserves through further phases of field development, the company says.
