OSLO -- The combined wildcat and appraisal well 30/3-10 S on the 30/3-9 discovery in the North Sea has been deemed uncommercial by StatoilHydro.

The primary objective for this well was to delineate the discovery. The secondary exploration target was Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks (Statfjord Formation).

Gas/condensate was proven in the Brent Group, but the reservoir was thinner than expected and is most likely not commercial, the company reports. Data collected from the secondary target in the Statfjord Formation shows that the reservoir is tight and probably filled with water.

The well was not formation-tested, but data collection and sampling were carried out. The well will be plugged and abandoned.

The semisubmersibleWest Alpha drilled the well to a vertical depth of 3,962 m (12,999 ft) below the sea surface.
